2020 AFLSR Traineeship Opportunities

AFLSR Traineeships are similar to a regular full-time job but have been developed to provide young people with paid hands-on experience in the workforce as well as accredited TAFE training.


Traineeships Available:

Sport/PE

The AFL trainee is responsible to the Principal through the Health/PE Learning Area and Sport department. The position primarily focuses on the needs of and support to John Paul College teachers and students in the areas of Physical Education and Sport. 

The trainee is expected to be work collaboratively with a team of staff from Health/PE/Sport.

Traineeships are a 12-month training course with 2 components:

  • On the job experience
  • Accredited training at TAFE – Certificate III/IV in Sport and Recreation

Some Responsibilites include:

  • Assistance with the Year 7 and 8 Physical Education program as per directed by the Physical Education teacher 
  • To work with the House Captains (Years 9 and 12) regarding the loan of equipment at lunchtime and to ensure that equipment is returned.
  • Organise lunchtime activities with the assistance of the Sport Coordinator and the House Captains. This would involve the organisation of the activity from start to finish, including publicity/ladder, etc.
  • Ensuring the Kealy Centre and storerooms are kept in a tidy manner ready for all classes, school activities and sporting events.

Education Support—(Youth Minister / Worker position)

Background:

Each year two casual Youth Ministers have been appointed. This position is full time in the youth ministry area. 

Rationale: 

Guided by our mission statement, this Youth Ministry Traineeship is essential to ensure that the above stated initiatives continue to innovate and grow. Such positions not only provide significant opportunity and benefits to the young person in the position, but it also serves to empower the student body.

These positions are similar in nature to the currently established ‘AFL Trainee’ position. However, in keeping with John Paul College’s outstanding tradition of innovative program delivery and implementation, this program will have a significantly different focus to that of the current trainee position and be unique amongst Diocesan Secondary Schools.

Position details:

The successful applicant would begin their positions in the year following the completion of their year 12.

Casual Youth Minister / Worker position

Background:

John Paul College has a commitment to the areas of student leadership; student volunteering; student social justice initiatives; faith based programs; peer based ministry and parish primary school outreach.

Rationale: 

Guided by our mission statement, these Youth Ministry positions are essential to ensure that the above stated initiatives continue to innovate and grow. Such positions not only provide significant opportunity and benefits to the young person in the position, but it also serves to empower the student body.

These positions are similar in nature to the currently established ‘AFL Trainee’ position. However, in keeping with John Paul College’s outstanding tradition of innovative program delivery and implementation, this program will have a significantly different focus to that of the current trainee position and be unique amongst Diocesan Secondary Schools.

Position details:

For 2020 there will be 2 youth ministry positions. These positions are available to year 12 students via normal job application and interview processes. 

The two successful applicants would begin their positions in the year following the completion of their year 12.
