Community Companion's 5 Year Anniversary

Community Companion's 5 Year Anniversary

On Monday 26th August the Community Companion celebrated it's 5 year anniversary.

In 2014, the JPC Community Companion was launched. Students raised money to buy and fit out a food trailer. They identified the need in the community and that there was no soup van in the area for the homeless and marginalised.

The Community Companion serves in Frankston every Tuesday night (except in January). In 2019 the Companion introduced an additional evening on Thursdays, opening up volunteering to other members of the public, outside of JPC.  Tuesday 5pm - 7pm Thursday 6pm-8pm.

Since the start of the Community Companion

8,542 people have been assisted by the Companion in the last 5 years
935 hours of service
1405 Volunteers from the JPC community including staff, students and parents
The Companion has around 1,500 moments of assistance each year.
Donations from the following organisations have made this possible; Langwarrin Football Club, Bakers Delight Karingal, Food bank Dandenong, JPC Stewart Centre, St Francis Xavier Parish Youth Group, St Josephs Parish Chelsea, St Anne's Parish Seaford, The Cupcake Queen Frankston, St John's Primary School and many more.

FACE – Family And Community Engagement

FACE at JPC is a dedicated team of staff and parents working together to support improved student outcomes. We hope to achieve this through the development of sustained and effective partnerships between the college, students, their families and the community. Research unequivocally recognises a link between engaging families in learning and improved student outcomes, and furthermore a strong sense of community is linked to improved wellbeing, which also affects learning outcomes.
